Disney Family Day 2.11: Dumbo

Our final Disney Family Day for Round 2 was chosen entirely on food choices and theme -- Dumbo! And since it was circus themed, it was full of delicious and horribly unhealthy treats instead of much of a real dinner. So we're lousy parents... it was fun (and yummy)! ;)

But first, a little Pin-the-Feather-on-Dumbo's-Trunk (during which Hartley cheated a bit) -

These sure are a fun way to pass the time. Alas, it's just about time for us to actually go to Disney World instead. That'll work, too!

Now We're Ready!

These came in the mail today for Emmersyn and Hartley, so that the fireworks at WDW won't be so loud:

Of course now, despite LOVING them (her words), Hartley is afraid of the headphones. And of toenail polish.

She is a strange, strange girl. And to be perfectly honest, she makes some parenting moments simultaneously very tough, very heartbreaking, and very funny.

*sigh*

Disney Fanily Day 2.9 (Cinderella) & Disney Family Day 2.10 (Lady & the Tramp)

Don't be confused by the exact same shirts and equally messy hair in all of these pictures. (Seriously, huh? Don't Emmersyn and Hartley have more clothes? Doesn't their mother ever brush their hair?) The following recaps are from two separate DFDs, at least a week apart. I swear. In case you're curious, you'll know the difference from the bags under everyone's eyes from today's party, thanks to last night's tornado warning.

First up was Cinderella!

We started by coloring beautiful, extremely colorful versions of the starring princess.

Then we played (several rounds of) a "Slipper Hunt" game that the girls really enjoyed.

Dinner was a Royal Feast (hey, I was in the middle of a four-day migraine -- go with it!), topped off with yummy Strawberry Soup!

Today, we went for an equally classic but non-princess flick, Lady and the Tramp. It was another Emmersyn and Hartley have watched half a dozen times, but we chose it because of the super fun crafts (yarn spaghetti) and activities (face-paint puppies) we could do. You know, the ones we didn't do. Thanks to the aforementioned tornado warning and incredibly sleepless night. (Seriously, the girls fell asleep in 7 minutes tonight. If you know them, you can now imagine my day.)

Instead, we made and devoured Puppy Chow for a snack, and settled in under blankets on the couch to watch the movie.

Dinner was, as if I even have to tell you, Spaghetti & Meatballs - with Luigi's Italian Ice for dessert. Score! Easiest. DFD Dinner. Ever.

Emmersyn and Hartley got to color on the table, so they thought it was a pretty cool day.

In case anyone is (still) keeping track, we have one (1!) party left. You know, because we leave in less that two weeks. And you know WE'RE keeping track!

Disney Family Days 2.8: Tangled!

As you might know, Tangled came out last week. We weren't going to have our "Rapunzel party" until later in the month, but Kyle and I just couldn't wait to watch the movie with Emmersyn and Hartley, so a few things were rearranged. :)

Before watching the movie, we drew hair on Rapunzel. Purple hair, of course. To match her purple dress.

The girls were more entranced with this movie than perhaps any other we've ever watched, and if you've seen it you know that's for good reason. It's a ridiculously good movie.

Dinner was simple but yummy, but the highlight was definitely the pascal cupcakes.

I'm pretty sure it's about time to watch it again. You've seen it, right?

Disney Family Days 2.7: Peter Pan

Two DFD's ago now, we had a "Peter Pan Party". I had all sorts of fun plans like toddlers flying with the aid of pixie dust, a treasure hunt, following the leader, etc but the girls decided that, for one day only, they'd nap all afternoon. Who am I to argue that, so we skipped half of the activities.  Hartley must have known intuitively that she should justify my doing so in some way, so she asked to watch "The Green Peter Pan Movie" (Return to Neverland). Considering I like this one far better than the original (blasphemy!), we gladly obliged. All was well in the planning world again. You know, since some of the other activities just wouldn't have made sense with the second movie! ;)

Anyway... we did all don peter pan hats --

and decorate sails --

for our Pirate Ship Pizzas!

Disney Family Day 2.6: Bolt

Thanks to their obsession with YouTube videos, the girls were somewhat familiar with Bolt before having seen the movie - so they were excited to have our most recent Bolt-themed Disney Family Day!

When they got up from their nap, we colored (hey, it's been a while! ;)) and then played "Mitten's Matching Game".  They're getting really good at Memory-style games!  It's been fun, both with various DFDs and the Handy Manny matching game they got for Christmas, to watch them catch on and improve at the skill set involved in such a classic kids activity.

After our activities we watched the movie, and the girls were enthralled.  Afterward it was time for dinner, with lots of kid-friendly favorites.  No gourmet food this time around, that's for sure! ;)

Next Up: Peter Pan

Disney Family Day 2.5: Pinocchio

Our most recent Disney Family Day was Pinocchio-themed!  As you know, we spent most of last week sick as snot, so it was very, very laid back.  No decorations, no games.  We played with puppets and talked about marionettes, had a German-Italian-Pinocchio dinner and watched the movie.  In our pajamas.

Hey, it'll do. :)

Next up... Bolt!  And on a related note, we are going to Disney World in 64 days.  Which is about 63.5 days too many, but it will also do.
